This photograph isn’t about a chapter I’ve already survived.

It’s about the chapter I’m living right now.

I started the Desert Feet Project while rebuilding my life from the
ground up — photographing my feet in the desert exactly as they are
and exactly where I am.

Dirty. Unpolished. Sometimes marked by my socks. Standing on rocks.
Surrounded by desert plants. No attempt to make any of it look
prettier than it is.

Because neither rebuilding nor resilience is particularly polished
while you’re living it.

I’m learning to use what I have.

I sell rocks like the ones beneath my feet. I work with and sell creosote
bundles from the desert around me. I create photographs, stories,
videos, and whatever else I can build from the resources, abilities,
ideas, and opportunities already within reach.

I’m getting back on my feet while I’m still at rock bottom.

Standing alone in the desert if that’s what it takes.

Using what I’ve got.

Creating something from it.

Moving forward.

Unwavering.

Not polished.
Not rescued.
Not finished.
